How Do I Get a Library Card?
You apply for your Library Card at the Check Out Desk at the library. Upon completion of an application and the presentation of required identification, you will be able to pick up your card in 2 - 3 days. Applicant must be present. Parents must sign the application for children under the age of 18 and assume responsibility for the child’s selections and financial responsibility.
 
Acceptable Forms of Identification for Library Card Applications  
 

State issued Identification with a photograph plus one of the following:

 
  • A piece of mail postmarked within the last 30 days
    •  
  • A current Lease with dates, address, and name
    •  
  • A checkbook with name and current address
    •  
     
    For children under 18 years of age to receive a library card...
     
    1. Both the parent/minor applicant must be present at the time of application.
    2. The parent/guardian must present valid identification and proof of residency. (See acceptable forms of identification for library card applications listed above.)
    3. The parent/guardian must present "proof of guardianship." Acceptable verification for "proof of guardianship" includes one of the following for the minor child:
      • Birth Certificate of child
      • Social Security card of the child
      • Current school ID or report card
      • Learner's permit or driver's license
      • Immunization records
    ELIGIBILITY
    Residents of Union County, property owners, teachers and students who attend Union County schools or New Albany Schools; and police and fire department staff are eligible for a free Library Card.
     
    Nonresidents may have a Library Card, valid for one year at a time, by paying a non-resident fee of $10.00 per year
     
    WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE MY LIBRARY CARD WITH ME?
     
    Borrowers who have forgotten their valid Library cards may have check out privileges with current identification.

    Borrowers with lost or stolen Library cards should report this to any Library Check Out Desk immediately to avoid possible misuse of the card.

    Borrowers with lost Library cards may obtain a replacement by applying in person at any Library Check Out Desk;  there is a $1.00 fee for a new card, payable at issue. Identification showing name and current address is required.
